Curbside Chipper Event (Wildwood Neighborhood, Thousand Oaks)
Lower your wildfire risk by reducing overgrown vegetation on your property! The Ventura Regional Fire Safe Council is hosting a Curbside Chipper Event for any residents in the Wildwood Neighborhood on May 26th! Each resident that REGISTERS will do their own yard work and set all their ready-to-chip vegetation into a neatly formed stack at the end of their driveway by May 25. On the day of the event, a crew will drive by with a chipper and chip their vegetation and either haul the chips away or keep them on site, to be determined at registration. Drop-off Chipper Events consist of VRFSC establishing a drop-off location and set time where residents can bring their cut vegetation for chipping on-site.
Focused on chipping yard waste and vegetation, the Chipper Program has tangible impacts on mitigating wildfire risk by significantly reducing potential fuel sources. Through this initiative, we not only enhance the safety of our communities but also contribute to a more sustainable and resilient environment by repurposing organic waste for beneficial use.
City of Ventura’s Community Wildfire Protection Plans
In partnership with the City of Ventura, we’ve drafted our first Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), and we want your input. The plan identifies local wildfire risks and recommends ways to protect homes, neighborhoods, and critical infrastructure.

The event will celebrate our Fire Safe Council’s work in 2025, honor the incredible bravery and tireless efforts of our first responders, and highlight the ongoing recovery and hard work of survivors. At the event, VRFSC will launch our Contractors Directory, a much-needed resource for residents interested in implementing home hardening and defensible space. The evening will inspire us all to rebuild and retrofit to a safer, more wildfire-resilient Ventura County.
